4c24eb0a40 Remove period at the end of short descriptions. 
In the process, some attributes in single quotes have been changed to double
quotes, and a few attribute lists have been written on one line instead of
several lines.

39e9093dd0 Tweak texlive instructions - 
Do not use let if result might be 0, which silently returns non-zero status
and can break scripts, or if result starts with 0 but is >7 e.g. 08, which
will be treated as octal and visibly report an error.

Fails to build with current poppler, and upstream has removed poppler for TL2021.

322b688f86 Texlive - update patch for vulnerability fixes, and to build with poppler-0.68.0, 0.69.0. Tested on 8.3/p-0.67, svn/p-0.68, 8.2/p-0.62, 8.1 with shipped poppler, p-0.57 was too old. Thanks to Douglas for notifying me of this.

95d0a04237 Use /sbin/ldconfig instead of just 'ldconfig' in llvm3 and texlive so that it can work if /sbin is not on root's PATH, e.g. after sudo.

150482fad9 Texlive-2017, and tag most of it for gcc-7.1. For the binary installer I have not tagged that (only installed the release on 8.0), but I did run the pretest, and therefore ncurses5 and readline6, on a gcc-7.1 system.

5e61060f7c Update texlive to 2016, also update xindy to current source. Various cleanups, in particular the perl modules are now mode 644. Explanations brought into same order as the commands (I hope). Tag asymptote and biber. Any users of asymptote on gcc-6.1 systems should consult the wiki pages for install-tl-unx or asymptote (i.e. if from source) as appropriate. E&OE.

382aa90c93 texlive cleanups: Move some commands from the new 'initialisation' block to the 'installing' block, correct the reference to setting the PATH to be clear that you should now do that before starting this section, and reduce the description of 'make texlinks' because I now recommend NOT rerunning it.
