<title>Introduction to Fuse</title>

<application>FUSE</application> (Filesystem in Userspace) is a simple
interface for userspace programs to export a virtual filesystem to the
Linux kernel. <application>Fuse</application> also aims to provide a
secure method for non privileged users to create and mount their own
filesystem implementations.

This package is only installed for compatibility with
<xref linkend="gvfs"/>. It is not needed with other packages.
For full fuse functionality, install <xref linkend="fuse3"/> which
does not interfere with these instructions.
